Aikido Shugenkai

Ken King, Dojo-cho

i

King-sensei has been training in Aikido since 1991 with his teacher, Kevin Jones-sensei.  King-sensei became a children's instructor in 1994. He attained the rank of Instructor in 1996, and Senior Instructor in 2000.  Upon moving to Longmont, Colorado in 2000, he founded the Shugenkai Colorado dojo, a non-profit organization that teaches Aikido to children and adults.  He is currently dojo-cho or dojo director of  this Shugenkai Colorado dojo and holds a Menkyo Chuden.  Over the years King-sensei has had the opportunity to attend many seminars and training events with some of the most senior Aikido teachers within Aikido which has added greatly to his training.

Says King-sensei, "I believe in Aikido's benefit to daily life over all other benefits of practice. I believe in Aikido practice as a way of trying to curb violence and conflict in society by training children while they're young and changing the programmed attitudes of adults. Aikido enables both children and adults to apply skills designed to dissipate conflict without the use of violence or aggression in everyday encounters."

"I have been around many great teachers, and have been able to take something from my experience with each of them, I am truly grateful for their time they gave to me. I have trained with many different partners over the years and thank every one of them for their part in shaping what my Aikido Practice has become today, but none more than my Sensei, Kevin Jones who has given me the tools to shape what my Aikido becomes tomorrow."
